ENGLAND international runner Rebecca Craigie showed her pedigree for the big stage after she became the only Vale Royal athlete to earn a medal at the Aviva ESAA English Schools’ Track & Field Championships.
Under 17 star Craigie, who was representing Cheshire at the Don Valley Stadium in Sheffield, finished second in the 1,500m in a time of four minutes 26 seconds.
Clubmates Amy Talbot and Megan Huxley were unlucky to miss out on a medal as Talbot finished 5th in the 1,500m steeplechase in five minutes eight seconds while Huxley smashed her personal best time by finishing sixth in the inter girls 3,000m in 10 mins three seconds.
Weaverham High School duo Katie Gardener and Lauren Roberts also featured in the finals but did not threaten the podium finishers.
Gardener jumped 5.10m in the inter girls long jump while Roberts settled for 15th in the junior girls discus after she threw 24.52m.
Victoria Anderson, from Oakmere, just missed out in the inter girls high jump after she finished fifth with 1.65m.
At the Aviva World Trials and UK Championships at Alexander Stadium in Birmingham, Vale Royal Atheltics Club stars were also in action.
Nicky Archer, in her final competative event of the season before returning to America next month, was forced to settle for eighth in the 5,000m in a time of 16 mins 59 secs.
She repeated the result a day later when again she finished eighth, this time in the gruelling 10,000m in 34 mins 59 secs.
Also in action was Vale Royal duo Stevie Stockton and Charlotte Roach. Stockton qualified for the final of the 1,500m and registered a personal best time of four mins 16 seconds by finishing eighth.
