RISING Wrexham Athletic Club stars were in the medals at the North Wales Indoor Athletics Centre Open.
Daniel Hodgson stormed to gold medal glory in the Under 17s men’s high jump (1.50m) and pole vault (3.40) while Lydia David was the winner of the U17s women’s shot with a personal best (8.99). Hannah Browning won U15s girls long jump (4.13) and high jump (1.35) silver and 60m bronze (9.3secs).
David Blower was the star of the show for Wrexham at the Wigan Open. He powered to U15s boys 800m gold (2.19.4mins) and 200m bronze (26.4secs) as well as finishing 10th in the long jump (3.92m). Manon Edwards won U15s girls shot silver with a personal best (7.70) as well as being sixth in the long jump (3.96) and eighth in the 75m hurdles (14.5secs). Melys Edwards claimed U13s girls 70m hurdles bronze (13.8) and also finished sixth in the 100m (15.4) and 12th in the long jump (3.60m).
There was age group success for Gina Paletta and Linda Jones at the Chirk Castle 10k. Paletta, the fastest U20s woman, led Wrexham’s charge in 20th (40.55mins) and was followed by: 24 Geoff Richards (41.41); 25 David Rogers (41.47); 32 Charles Ashley (43.32); 101 Jones (51.58 – first W40); 102 Debbie Dodd (52.05); 178 John Tipping (75.22).
Ashley was 18th (64.06) in the Llantysilio Mountain Race while Ian James was 10th (2.12.00hours) in the Rhayader Lakes 20 Mile Road Race.
