POLICE are appealing for information after a family was held at knifepoint by armed robbers in Oakmere.

At about 10pm yesterday, Monday, a group of men armed with baseball bats raided a house on Tarporley Road. The group entered the house via the back door, which was unlocked.

They then attacked the male homeowner, 51, and threatened him with a knife while making him identify where valuables were in the house.

His wife, also 51, and 18-year-old daughter were also threatened and at one stage forcibly restrained by the men, each having their hands tied together.

While the men continued their search downstairs the 51- year-old woman managed to escape by jumping from an upstairs window onto the pavement below.

She fled to a nearby house and raised the alarm, and the police were called. It is thought the intruders escaped on foot before officers arrived.

The family were taken to Leighton Hospital. They were not seriously injured, but left traumatised and in shock by the attack.

Police are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed people or cars in the area at the time of the incident, or anyone who has any information, to contact Northwich CID on 0845 4580000, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
