THE A55 between Chester and North Wales has been closed in both directions because of a serious fire.
The blaze, at a workshop near the Post House roundabout at Rough Hill, was reported just after 4pm today (Friday, October 10) and has resulted in clouds of thick black smoke billowing across both carriageways.
In addition, a 250-metre cordon has been placed around the area to ensure the safety of the public because a number of potentially explosive acetylene canisters stored at the site.
The road, a particularly busy commuter route between Chester and North Wales, is closed between the A41 (Sainsbury's) roundabout and the Broughton roundabout.
A spokesman for Cheshire Fire Service said there were three appliances and a hydraulic platform at the site, and that the fire could take quite some time to bring under control as the cylinders would need to be made safe.
Cheshire Police are advising motorists to alter their route and avoid the area as the incident has created a significant amount of traffic congestion.
