A woman had to be taken to hospital after her sofa caught fire.

At about 8.45 on Saturday, fire crews were called to a house in Walmoor Park, Chester, where they discovered a blaze in the ground floor living room.

They had to wear specialist breathing apparatus to rescue the woman who was suffering from smoke inhalation.

She was given oxygen before paramedics arrived and took the woman to hospital.

The fire is believed to have involved the living room sofa.

Crews isolated the electricity in the home and used a fan and thermal imaging camera to check further hotspots.
