A COMMUNITY group in Chester has been awarded a funding boost to improve safety in its neighbourhood.

The Westminster Park Forum received a £621 grant as part of a Home Office scheme to help local volunteers work with services to tackle crime and anti-social behaviour in their area.

Treasurer Nick Ryan applied for the funding from the Community Crime Fighters Fund on behalf of the forum.

Funds will be used to hold a community impact day, which will aim to help inform residents about what they can do to tackle crime.

The grants are part of a pilot programme where community crime fighters can bid for grants of up to £1,000 to undertake local crime-fighting initiatives.

The Government’s neighbourhood, crime and justice adviser, Louise Casey, said: “Local people are the key to tackling crime and anti-social behaviour – they know what is really going on in their neighbourhood, what the real problems are and where residents’ concerns lie.

“By awarding the grants to local people who are already active in their communities, we can help make their communities safer.”
