BUILDERS are moving in to the Wesley Church Centre for a £500,000 refurbishment of their premises on St John’s Street.

The city centre venue will be forced to close for a few weeks but thanks to their neighbours at the Welsh Presbyterian Church who will give the centre a temporary home, it will be business as usual across the way for Wesley’s coffee bar and Fairtrade shop.

Wesley’s minister, Rev Claire Heald, said: “We are delighted that the people of the Welsh Presbyterian Church have opened their doors to us. Their building’s modern interior is wheelchair accessible and has a lift to the first floor. It is very handy, being only a few yards further up St John Street from Wesley.”

Meanwhile, behind closed doors at Wesley, the refurbishment scheme begins to create lighter, brighter, more flexible premises. It includes a new kitchen and servery, a new entrance to the worship area and level access to all areas. New toilet facilities, a lift, and an atrium also feature. The work will be undertaken in two phases with the first scheduled for completion by the end of September and the second in December.

The scheme design has been developed with the Design Group Chester, the contractor is Liverpool based Nobles Construction Ltd.

Toddlers from the church creche took part in a teddy bear toddle and picnic to help raise funds for the renovation.
