A GARAGE owner will test his endurance to its limits on one of the world's most gruelling courses.

Dave Morris, of Sandy Lane Garage, Chester will tackle the challenging uphill terrain of the L'Etape du Tour, the Pyrenean mountain range section of the Tour de France for a Prostate Cancer Research Foundation.

This year even the legendary Lance Armstrong has struggled on the Tour but having trained for a year and left the business in the capable hands of wife Jaqui, Dave is up to the task.

Jaqui said: “It's the hardest leg of the tour, the three main climbs. You have to go to training camps just to get in it.

“About 9,000 people enter it and less than half get to finish.

“We chose a prostate cancer charity because friends and family have been diagnosed.

“He turned 40 in May and this is what he wanted to do! Me and the kids think he's some guy that's occasionally in the house.”

Dave has cycled 250 miles a week and invested in a state-of-the-art Dogma bike ridden by Team Sky in professional competition.

Jaqui added: “He's lost about two stone. He's tiny!

“He's not drunk alcohol since Christmas. He's been drinking green tea.”

The Etape, taking place on July 18, is 178km long and includes three of the most famous climbs, each of which is over 20km long.

Dave completed the 100-mile Cheshire Cat race in March in less than six hours and every Saturday morning, Dave and his cycling partner make the 100-mile journey from Chester to Abersoch.
