POLICE have released the registration number of a car used by armed robbers to escape after a raid on a Crewe jewellery shop.
A metallic blue Volvo was used by four masked men who struck at John Pass Jewellers in Nantwich Road at 10am on Monday, March 6.
The men, all disguised, threatened staff with hammers and a crowbar before making off with a valuable quantity of jewellery and watches along nearby Westminster Street.
The car, which has a spoiler on the rear, was discovered shortly after the robbery in Mavor Court, off Flag Lane. The number plate is W487 VSM.
Officers think the robbers may have a local link, because of where the car was dumped.
They are also keen to hear from anyone who saw the car before or after the robbery.
Detective Inspector Iain Goodwin, from Crewe Special Investigations Unit, said: 'Some forensic recoveries have been made and we are awaiting the results of them at this time.
'It's members of the public that help us with our inquiries. We are very grateful to any members of the public who contact us with information.'
The men are all believed to be young white males, aged between 18 and 25, 5ft 6ins to 6ft tall and of slim athletic build. They were all dressed in dark clothing and wore scarves, hats and gloves.
The first man who entered the shop was wearing a trilby-style hat and false beard and moustache. nAnyone with information can contact Crewe Special Investigations Unit on 01244 613333 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
