PATIENTS at a Frodsham surgery will be offered a life-saving test with their flu vaccines this year.

As part of the annual flu campaign at The Knoll Surgery, Frodsham, and Brookside Surgery, Kingsley, about 2,500 patients will also be asked if they want to be tested for diabetes.

More than 400 patients at the practices have been diagnosed with diabetes and it is estimated as many as 150 more could be suffering from the disease without realising.

Dr Steven Pomfret of The Knoll surgery said: “This year the clinics will be held on October 16, 23 and 30 and as an added bonus everyone attending for a flu vaccination will be offered the opportunity of having a simple finger prick check for diabetes.

“It is a simple almost painless procedure where the result will be available within a matter of seconds and we hope that everyone will want to be checked.

“Diabetes is a very troublesome condition if left undiagnosed and early treatment is very successful. As with so many other illnesses age is an important factor and the same people who we would advocate attending for a flu vaccination are just the people who may be vulnerable to diabetes.

“We are very grateful to Abbott Laboratories who have kindly donated 1,000 test strips and a supply of monitors to help us with our screening.”
