AN ENTREPRENEUR has scooped a top award and the respect of his peers in one go.
Co-founder of price comparison website moneysupermarket.com Simon Nixon, 39, won the Entrepreneur’s Entrepreneur of the Year award.
Famously dubbed the ‘Business Oscars’ by Prime Minister Gordon Brown, the highly contested category is voted for by fellow tycoons. Sir Alan Sugar, star of The Apprentice, was among the nominees Simon beat to the title and past winners include James Dyson and Richard Branson.
Moneysupermarket.com cleaned up at the Daily Post Achievement Wales Business Awards on November 30 too, claiming a staggering three awards: Business of the Year Award, Best E-Commerce Business Award and Businessperson of the Year.
Simon said: “This Achievement Wales award isn’t just for me – it is for the 600 staff at moneysupermarket.com too. The past 12 months have been tremendous for moneysupermarket.com with us increasing staff numbers from 427 to more than 600 due to the massive increase in business. All of our employees received £3,000 worth of shares – the maximum amount allowed by the government – when we successfully listed on the stock exchange in July.”
Nixon started his Ewloe-based business in 1999. His website compares prices for money, travel, insurance and motoring and has four million users .
