LEARNING is not the only topic on the timetable at Whitby Heath Primary School.
Police surgeries are now held at the Wyedale school, thanks to a new series of sessions arranged by Police Community Support Officer Jodie Gristock.
Jodie is encouraging residents to catch up with her on the first Tuesday of each month, between 6.30pm-8pm. The next is on October 2.
She said: ‘Schools are a very important part of a community. They have links to many sectors of a neighbourhood such as pupils, parents, teachers and members of the public who use school facilities.
‘This makes them an ideal place for everyone to get together and talk about the issues which are having an impact in a community. The surgeries provide an opportunity to do just that.’
The concept of meeting police representatives in community buildings is nothing new – sessions in the Port regularly take place at libraries, hospitals and even supermarkets.
PCSOs work alongside PCs and form part of Community Action Teams, which are dedicated to providing long-term solutions to problems which can blight a community such as anti-social behaviour, underage drinking, vehicle nuisance and illegal parking.
