Ten people have been taken to hospital after inhaling chemicals following a spill at a plant in Saltney this morning (Wednesday, April 9).
Fire crews from Deeside, Wrexham, Buckley and Chester are currently in attendance at English Provender Company on the Brymau Two Trading Estate in River Lane.
A Welsh Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We were called at 9.34am today to an incident at a commercial property on River Lane Industrial Estate, Saltney.
"We sent two rapid response vehicles and four emergency ambulances to the scene, where 12 people required treatment.
"Of the 12, ten people have been taken to the Countess of Chester Hospital in a stable condition, two people have been discharged at the scene."
The Incident Response Unit from Deeside and the Environmental Protection Unit from Wrexham are also at the factory.
A fire service spokesman said emergency services were called after two cleaning agents are understood to have been mixed, causing a release of toxic vapour.
North Wales Fire and Rescue Service says it has been working closely with the Welsh Ambulance Service NHS Trust and Countess of Chester Hospital and have decontaminated a number of casualties as a precaution.
EPC have issued a statement yesterday which said: "An incident occurred this morning during a routine cleaning process at EPC 's site in River Lane, Saltney. The emergency services were requested to attend as per company procedure. The incident was contained within the facility.
"The circumstances surrounding the incident are currently under investigation."
