Brand, who was performing his RE:BIRTH show on Merseyside, bumped into fellow visitors at the English Heritage managed site, which is described as one of the most dramatically sited medieval castles in England.
The comic, who goes under the name ‘Rustyrockets’ on Twitter, was accompanied by his partner Laura Gallacher, their baby Mabel and pet dog Bear.
Glyn Wilkinson wrote on Twitter: “A genuine pleasure to meet @rustyrockets and family, including Bear at Beeston Castle today. Macy loved Bear x”
Brand posed for selfies with fans at the top of the steep climb, which on a clear day affords spectacular views all the way from the Pennines to the Welsh mountains.
And with its 4,000 year history, it seems likely the ancient site will have appealed to the creative funnyman who is studying Religion in Global Politics at London University’s School of Oriental and African Studies.
A spokesperson for English Heritage said: “Yes, he came here with his family. That was it really.”
Brand, an ex-drug addict and self-confessed former womaniser, draws on his experience as a father in his latest show which he performed in Liverpool last month.
Joe Thomas, who reviewed RE:BIRTH for The Echo, wrote: “The full-time funny man, part-time campaigner blended the crude with the innocent, the childish with the more mature world view becoming a dad seems to have brought him in a show that had the crowd laughing at every turn.”
