POLICE are reassuring villagers not to be alarmed by a door to door selling scheme.

A number of residents in Mouldsworth, Ashton Hayes and Kelsall have reported opening their doors to sales people from a young offenders rehabilitation programme.

But PC Steve Trow said: “This is a national scheme where offenders have been released back into society and are being rehabilitated back into work with gainful employment selling household items door to door.

“All genuine callers will produce photo ID from the outset. A polite 'No thank you' will suffice if you are not interested.

“There is no need to report any sightings to us but please contact us (on 0845 458 0000) if their behaviour needs to be challenged.”
