WET weather has forced organisers of the Bolesworth Classic Showjumping event in Tattenhall to cancel its opening day.

The annual extravaganza was due to start today (Thursday) and run until Monday, but persistent rainfall means the ground is unsuitable for performance and needs to be preserved.

However, sunshine is predicted for the rest of the weekend and organisers hope to resume normal activity by tomorrow.

A statement posted on the Bolesworth website reads: ‘It is with great regret that the Bolesworth Classic has been cancelled today.

‘We have not taken this decision lightly but the weather forecast is excellent for the next three days and we are hoping that by preserving all ground today we will have a successful three-day show.

‘Further notices will be posted about an amended schedule for tomorrow but The Chester Women in Business Awards Lunch will run as organised today!’

Equestrian legend Nick Skelton is set to compete at the show, attempting to reclaim the Bolesworth Classic Grand Prix trophy he won in 2010.

There will also be all-round entertainment for the whole family, including the Bolesworth Food, Fashion and Lifestyle Festival which celebrates the best in local produce, real ale, clothing, art and crafts, holistic, beauty and lifestyle.

And there will be plenty of activities for children of under 12 to enjoy including a popular vintage funfair, mini quad biking, climbing wall, trampolines, zorbing, archery, as well as demonstrations by the pony club, pedigree and novelty dog shows, and plenty of opportunity to browse and shop in the extensive shopping village.
