Police have set up a public cordon in Blacon after a man climbed on to a roof and began throwing items on to the pavement.

A Cheshire police spokesperson confirmed that officers are currently still engaged in a stand-off with the man on Stratford Road and have set up the cordon around the property to ensure the safety of the public.

The police helicopter has been circling the area for the past half an hour.

No weapon is believed to have been discovered as yet but police are advising people to stay in their homes until they have dealt with the incident.

Chief constable of Cheshire Constabulary, Simon Byrne, has just tweeted that armed officers and the National Police Air Service have been deployed to the Blacon area.
