TWO hammer-wielding thugs held up a petrol station in Widnes.

The incident happened at the busy Mill-house Garage on Hale Road at 8.40pm last Wednesday.

A cashier was stood at the counter when a man, brandishing a claw hammer, burst into the shop and demanded cash.

An accomplice, who was stood at the exit, was also armed with a hammer. The men left the premises with cash.

The robber who approached the counter was white, 6ft and wearing a black hooded top pulled up over his head. The second offender was white, 5ft 10ins, with a hooded top.

Both were aged between 18 and 22, of slim build and were clean shaven with spotty complexions.

The police are appealing to anyone who may have seen the men, before or after the robbery, to contact them.
