POLICE are appealing for information following an assault that took place in Ellesmere Port last week.

At about 8.45pm on Tuesday September 25, , a 42-year-old woman was walking near flats on Sutton Way when she was approached from behind by a man.

The man grabbed her by the coat and spoke to her before she set off her own personal attack alarm and ran off along Pooltown Road.

He followed her for a short distance before walking off in the direction of Princes Road.

The man is described as mixed race, in his mid-thirties with a slim build and short dark hair.

He was wearing a red windcheater-style jacket, light coloured chinos and was carrying a clear umbrella.

The victim noticed that he appeared to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

Inspector Brian Green of Ellesmere Port Neighbourhood Policing Unit said:

“We would like to reassure the public that this is an isolated incident and it is being investigated thoroughly.

“We take all reports of this nature very seriously and ask that anyone with information contact Cheshire Police on 101 or anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 quoting incident number 855 of September 25 2012.”
