A weekend night bus from Liverpool to Chester has become a permanent fixture after a trial proved successful.
The Stagecoach service enables people living in Chester, Ellesmere Port, and Wirral to travel about more easily at night or in the early hours, including Christmas revellers.
Launched in September – initially on a trial basis – it runs every Friday and Saturday night with last buses leaving as late as 3.05am. The company will continue to operate its luxurious Stagecoach Gold buses, which are fitted with audio CCTV as standard.
The buses follow the same route as the current number 1 daytime service and people using the service don’t pay any more for nighttime journeys. The number of the service will change from N1 to 1 in line with the daytime service for consistency.
Stagecoach dayrider, weekly megarider and 28-day tickets are available and accepted for night time journeys on the 1 service. Single and return tickets are also available.
Rob Jones, managing director of Stagecoach Merseyside and South Lancashire, said: “The night time service on the number 1 addresses a key need for people across Merseyside and Cheshire and we’re delighted to confirm that we will be making the service a permanent part of our offering for the foreseeable future.
“The trial period, which ran from September, has shown that this is a service that people really need and we’re pleased to be able to address that and provide people with the means to travel about and enjoy themselves on a Friday and Saturday night.
“We’re confident this service will continue to be highly popular – particularly over the busy Christmas season and will enable people to get home from work or play comfortably and affordably on our luxury Stagecoach gold buses.”
