Nick Crawshaw was accused of being a ‘manipulative, devious and arrogant sexual predator’ under cross examination.

The 23-year-old insisted he would have pleaded guilty already if the allegations against him were true.

Crawshaw, of West Street, Hoole, is charged with 16 sex offences, including 10 rapes, against seven victims between 2010 and 2015. He denies all charges.

Simon Mills, prosecuting, said he would be direct with Crawshaw as the accused was called back to give evidence for the second day during his trial at Warrington Crown Court on Thursday (February 25).

He said: “You are a liar aren’t you?

“In this case you have been confronted with witness after witness that’s told the jury what you are and you just say that’s not true.

“You are a manipulative, devious and arrogant sexual predator.”

Crawshaw was visibly emotional throughout his time in the witness box.

He replied: “If it was true I would admit it but it’s just not true. I’m not a sexual predator nor am I a rapist.”

The defendant said the witnesses were either lying or reciting what the complainants had told them.

Mr Mills said: “It’s not just lying. It’s coming to court and telling lies to a jury under oath or affirmation, which is a serious criminal offence. It’s roughly 20 people coming here and doing it.

“What is it about your life that has left such a trail of misery behind you?”

Crawshaw said he did not know, but he had heard of rumours in the past.

“When I was younger I would go from girl to girl to girl. I was stupid but I’ve changed.

“My mum has always told me not to fight fire with fire and I moved on from it which must have left the gateway open for people to make allegations.”

Crawshaw has denied being in Cruise in Chester on the night he allegedly raped the fifth complainant in the case.

The prosecution has produced a photo posted to Facebook they claim proves he was in the nightclub that evening, which was a special student night.

Crawshaw said the photo was taken at a subsequent date after he got back from Turkey. He added the watch he is wearing in the picture was purchased while he was in Istanbul.

Mr Mills pointed out the date of the photo which suggested it was uploaded to Facebook on the night in question in July 2012.

He said: “You’ve been caught out in an absolute blatant whopping lie and what you are doing now is you are just seamlessly trying to avoid it. You are just in total denial.

“You took her into the toilet, raped her and left her on the floor.” The accused denied this.

Crawshaw was also questioned by his defence barrister, Mark Le Brocq, about the allegations from the seventh complainant, who has claimed he raped her a number of times in one night in June 2015.

The defendant said they went back to his house after a night out at the Live Rooms venue in Chester because it was clear she ‘didn’t want to be there’.

When back at his home Crawshaw claimed they both took cocaine, including him snorting it off her back like in the film The Wolf of Wall Street, and had sex four times.

He said: “It was all equal, we took part in it together so it was consensual.”

The trial at Warrington Crown Court continues.
