RESIDENTS are being urged to protect the more vulnerable members of the community in the battle against burglars and bogus callers.

Police in Mid Cheshire are calling on families and friends to join them helping protect the elderly and those who live alone against thieves. It follows a number of crimes involving bogus callers around Mid Cheshire over the last few weeks.

Crime reduction adviser Keith Parsonage said: 'Many older people fear they will be targeted by a criminal because of their age or because they live alone. This isn't always the case - however we all, not just the police, have a duty to make elderly people feel safe and secure in their own homes.'
