THE challenge is on! Modern jive dancers can step up and win a cool £200 by showing off their spins, dips and drops in a new competition.

The contest is being organised by Steve Ledsham of the Blitz modern jive group which holds classes at the Guildhall in Chester on Monday and Tuesday evenings.

“It’s the first time we have ever held a competition like this and it’s generating a lot of excitement,” said Steve.

“It’s for intermediate dancers and it’s open to everyone across the region. Dancing here in Chester is of a very high standard and we thought we should celebrate that. After our competition some of the dancers will be going on to take part in the UK finals at Blackpool in June.”

The competition will form part of the Blitz Spring Ball on April 17. There will be knockout rounds followed by the semi final and the final. The winning couple will receive top prize of £200. The runners-up will win £100 and the third placed couple will receive £50. All the finalists will be presented with medals.

The judging panel will include two UK champions.

“It’s going to be a great night,” said Steve. “The couples taking part will be asked to dance to two tracks, chosen by us, which will really test their abilities. It will also be great for our up and coming dancers to watch competitors of this ability.

“Visually it will be fantastic as most of the competitors will be wearing outfits in aStrictly Come Dancing style.”

Entry forms for the competition, which costs £15 per couple to enter, are available from Steve on 07812 768033. Entry is restricted to 25 couples.

Tickets for the ball cost £8. For further information visit www.blitzjive.com
