POLICE triggered a river rescue operation – only to find out later that a lorry had got stuck under a bridge, not in water.
At 4.42pm, on Monday (August 11), seven fire service vehicles were sent to rescue a driver after being told by police that a lorry had plunged into Aldford Brook, near Chester Road, Aldford.
So Chester fire station dispatched two engines, the hydraulic platform and a boat while an appliance from Malpas, a line rescue from Knutsford and an appliance from Wrexham joined them.
But a further call from police alerted the crews to the fact that the lorry had not entered the river but was in fact stuck under a low bridge.
A single appliance from Chester proceeded to the scene but was not required.
