MEMBERS of Hoole United Reformed Church congratulated the Rev Derek Swansbury on Sunday when he celebrated 60 years as an ordained minister by conducting the morning service.
More than 40 family members were present as well as visitors from other local churches where he has served since coming to the North West.
Ordained into the Congregational Church in Theale, Surrey, in 1959, Mr Swansbury has served in Dudley, Paignton, Bolton and the Isle of Man. In 1985 he moved to Chester to take up an appointment at St Andrew’s Church, where he remained until his retirement.
Since coming to Chester, he has also been active in the voluntary sector, serving as the chairman of Abbeyfield Housing Association and the Citizens Advice Bureau for eight and 13 years respectively.
