WHEN Eleanor Child from Malpas was told the balloon she bought to support the Countess of Chester Hospital’s Think Pink Balloon Race had travelled 1022 miles to Hornachos in Spain she was amazed.
She said: “We were delighted to learn our tiny balloon had travelled all that way and we had won a holiday to Marbella.
“We are immensely grateful to Healthcare Staff Benefits who sponsored the race and organised the holiday.”
Marisa Muñoz Hidalgo found the balloon the day after the race and sent the winning ticket to the fundraising office at the Countess.
In her letter she said she also had friends who were also coping with breast cancer. She also received a ‘finder’s fee’ of £100.
Balloons appeared in South Wales, Somerset, Devon and Brittany, France and five made their way to Spain.
A total of £9,500 was raised for the Breast Care Unit Fund from the Think Pink Day held at the Exacta Stadium, home to Chester FC.
