A CHESTER couple driving a car in Swansea were lucky to escape with minor injuries after gale force winds brought a lamp-post crashing onto their car.
Doug Barrett said his wife had to be taken to hospital after the lamp-post struck the car.
He added: “It happened so fast. One minute I was driving along, the next my windscreen was smashed.” Ambulance, police and fire crews were called to the accident on a dual carriageway at 6pm on Saturday night.
It is thought Mr Barrett was in the outside lane when the lamp-post came crashing down on his car, near the Ty’r John Landfill site.
The bonnet of his red Ford Escort was smashed, and shattered glass lay strewn across the road and pavement.
Mrs Barrett was taken to Morriston Hospital. Her husband added: “I think she is okay. She was very shaken up”.
The couple were in the Swansea visiting relatives.
After fire crews helped the couple from the wreckage, the battered vehicle was moved across the carriageway to the kerbside of the road.
