AN ILLUMINATING addition was made to the sandstone bridge on Chester Road, Helsby this week.

Following 12 months of planning, new coach lighting worth £10,500 was completed on Wednesday and will now light the way for pedestrians.

Helsby parish Cllr Terry O’Neill said: “We are really made up. I have already had a few people say that they look really nice and the company that have done it have done a smashing job.”

The street lamps were paid for with a grant from “awards for all”, Lottery grants for local groups, and Helsby Parish Council.

“It all started out with the village plan which aims to improve the quality of life for Helsby residents and covers a number of things.

“We had an idea to enhance the sandstone bridge with some lighting which relied on us getting a grant and the parish coucil paying their share, which was budgeted for.

“I think, it looks really good, we’re all made up.”
