The A55 is closed eastbound and there are long delays for drivers after three separate incidents.

A car has flipped onto its roof under the Posthouse Roundabout at about 3.45pm on Friday (December 16).

There has been a second accident westbound near Broughton involving a car and a lorry at 4.15pm.

A woman has been taken to Aintree Hospital with 'serious injuries' after a third incident involving four cars and a HGV at 4.24pm.

A Cheshire Police spokeswoman said the blue Ford Fiesta had overturned on the A55 carriageway underneath the roundabout at junction 38.

Congestion has built up in the area with a queue back towards the North Wales border. The A55 reopened westbound at about 6.20pm.

Drivers have been asked to stay in their cars and avoid the area if possible.

Cheshire Police tweeted the congestion will last for 'several hours'. Highways England do not expect traffic to have returned to normal before 7.15pm.

Highways have put two diversion routes in place:

Westbound traffic should exit the A55 to join the A483 southbound and following the solid black square on local signs towards Wrexham. Then join the A5102 westbound, B5373 northbound and A550 northbound to rejoin the A55 at Broughton.

Eastbound traffic should exit the A55 at J35A and follow the hollow black square symbol on local signs via the A5104, A550 and B5373 all southbound then the B5102 eastbound to Wrexham and then follow the A483 north back to the A55.
