THE Olympic dream arrived early for the pupils of Guilden Sutton Primary School when their sports day embraced the spirit of the Games.
A themed day of sporting challenges saw the pupils divided into teams representing the colour of each of the iconic Olympic rings, complete with handmade torches.
The action-packed day came in the middle of an Olympic week in school and after a morning of more traditional events the children tried their hand at rocket javelin, welly throwing, assault courses and beat the goalie.
Reception teacher Sue Haywood said the day had helped to bring the excitement and fair play of the Games to life for the pupils.
She said: “All of the staff and pupils worked really hard to make the day a great success and the children loved representing each of the Olympic ring colours.
“After a week of activities talking about the upcoming Games it was lovely for them to show off some of their sporting prowess.”
Guilden Sutton will carry on the Olympic theme with its summer fête this Saturday from 1.30-4.30pm. The school samba band will kick-start a full day of activities, including an inflatable slide, pony rides, a karate display and lots more. Refreshments and a beer tent will also be available. Admission is £2 for adults and 50p for children.
