GREEN-FINGERED Frodsham residents have cheered up the town with colourful floral displays – and their efforts have been rewarded by community leaders.

Patrick Swan, head gardener at Arley Hall, toured the town judging impressive displays in front gardens and outside businesses that were nominated by town councillors and neighbours for this year’s Best Kept Gardens competition, organised by Frodsham Town Council.

Top prize in South Ward was won for the second time by Barbara and Kenneth Hocking’s head-turning front garden at their home in Bellemonte Road where the couple have lived for 32 years.

And in the business section, funeral directors DT Turner was again awarded first place for its striking display of hanging baskets and window boxes at its premises in High Street, which are tended by employee David Findlow.

All plants in the winning display were bought from 4th Frodsham Scouts’ through its annual fundraising plant sale.

Second prize in the business section went to the Bears Paw Pub in Main Street.

Certificates and prizes of garden centre vouchers will be presented to winners at the Frodsham Grow It and Make It Show to be held at the community centre in Fluin Lane on August 30.
