A Helsby primary school has kicked off the school year with a new rewards system for pupils’ good behaviour and attitude to learning, introduced by its new headteacher.

Sharon Wyatt’s Mouse Mania has already gone down a storm at Horn’s Mill Primary School.

On Monday mornings, classes vote for a reward for following the school rules and class charters, which they receive on Friday afternoons.

Rewards include watching a DVD with popcorn and playing on the bikes and scooters in the playground.

At the end of each half term, there is a whole school reward for the children who have successfully followed the school rules the majority of the time during that half term.

Mrs Wyatt said: “The Mouse Mania system is working really well. It rewards the children who make good choices everyday and brings about an extremely positive ethos and atmosphere for learning in school.

“It encourages children to aim for excellence and develops self motivation and ensures that children are proud of their performance.”

In addition to Mouse Mania there are Magnificent Mice - those children who have gone above and beyond the school’s expectations.

These pupils are given a raffle ticket which is drawn during the school’s Friday Celebration Assembly. If they have a winning ticket, they choose a prize from the Magnificent Mouse basket.
