A SCHOOL cheerleading team came out tops at a recent football fixture.
The SD Stars from St David’s High School in Saltney entertained the crowd before kick off at the Chester City match against Bradford City at the Deva Stadium.
Despite the failure of the sound system for the girls’ music and a one-nil loss for the home side, the cheerleaders wowed the crowd with their routine.
The 28-strong team of girls, aged between 11 and 15, have been practising at a new after school club since September.
The team was created by Sioned Williams, the school’s sports development officer, as part of Wales’ 5x60 scheme.
The programme aims to get children and young people exercising for at least 60 minutes, five days a week and has a £7.6m investment from the Welsh Assembly Government to provide extra curricular sports for secondary school children in Wales.
Sioned said: “The girls have already reached a very high standard for a school team. They will enter competitions and hopefully perform at other local football clubs and sporting venues.”
