WORLD Cup goodies are selling like hotcakes at Chatwin's shops across South Cheshire.

A new line of cakes introduced to mark the tournament are going down well, especially with younger customers.

Sandra Hough, sales assistant at the Crewe shop, Victoria Street, said: 'There are World Cup gingerbreadmen, cakes topped in red and white icing and strawberries frangipans with sweet-pastry bases.'

Like many shops across South Cheshire, the family bakery business, which has its headquarters in Nantwich, has also introduced colourful World Cup window displays.

Charity shops are raking in vital funds through selling goods on a football theme.

The British Heart Foundation outlet on Victoria Street, Crewe has its own range of soft World Cup footballs, fridge magnets, hairbands and bobbles.

Assistant manager Lynsey Goddard, 23, said: 'People have donated England tops, shorts and socks. Many customers have been able to look the part for a fraction of the cost of going to a high street chain.'
