A FOILED burglary has taken place at a Chester garage.
A door leading to a cash machine at Moston Garage, Liverpool Road was forced open and acetylene cutting equipment was used to try and get to the machine.
Shelley Williams of Cheshire Police said: “It looks as though the thieves were interrupted at some point because they left the cutting equipment at the scene and did not manage to gain access to any of the money stored inside the machine.”
Officers called upon the expertise of Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service to deal with the discarded equipment before carrying out a forensic investigation.
A spokesman for Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service said: “We were called out at 4.08am this morning to assist the police with cutting equipment that was found at Moston Garage.
“We were able to confirm the equipment was safe and turned off the supply to the torch head.
“Police officers remained at the scene after we left.”
The attempted break-in caused a considerable amount of damage to the door and the cash machine itself.
The amount of damage caused was estimated by police at £8,000 - £10,000.
