HALTON Stadium will be forced to improve its floodlights by the Rugby Football League (RFL) if Widnes Vikings earn promotion to Super League this year.
RFL chiefs have made an inspection of the stadium and informed the club it will have to upgrade the floodlights if it is to be granted promotion.
According to the Vikings' bid for Super League under a franchise system in 2007, improvement work will be undertaken should the floodlights not meet the required 1,000 lux. Currently the lights at the stadium are 666 lux.
A spokeswoman for Halton Borough Council said: 'A company has been to the stadium to assess the floodlights and we are awaiting the outcome of that. No cost details are available.'
It is believed the RFL approved every other requirement.
