FIRE crews had to tackle two skip fires on the same Ellesmere Port road, within the space of a few hours.

The first blaze, which happened at around 10.50 on Thursday night (August 9) on Thornton Road, occurred in a large skip containing cardboard and had to be fought by firefighters using one hose reel jet.

Once the fire was put out crews dampened down the skip and made efforts to ensure it would not get set alight again.

But just hours later just before 8am on Friday (August 10), firefighters were called out once again to Thornton Road, this time to move a large cardboard recycling container to put out a blaze involving the contents.

One hose reel jet was used to extinguish the fire and crews then damped down, turning over the contents to make sure no heat spots remained.

Cheshire West and Chester Council has been informed of the incident.
