The father of a man in a critical condition after being assaulted in Ellesmere Port is appealing to the public for help in finding those responsible.

Marek Sawinski flew from Poland to be at his son Lukasz's bedside while their family anxiously wait at home to hear from him.

Sometime between 1am and 1.15am on Monday, April 27, the victim and his friend walked into Woodfield Road from the direction of Victoria Road, Ellesmere Port.

They were approached by a group of four men and, after a brief conversation, an altercation took place on Woodfield Road near to Victoria Road.

Lukasz, 25, was knocked to the floor and sustained a head injury.

His friend was also assaulted.

The group were seen in the vicinity of Victoria Road before leaving the area. At least one suspect left in a vehicle.

Lukasz didn’t seek medical assistance until April 30 when he began feeling ill.

He remains in a critical condition at Walton Hospital.

Police are investigating the circumstances of the assault and are appealing for people to contact them with information.

Lukasz was due to fly back home to be with his goddaughter for her First Holy Communion, a milestone she’ll now be making without him.

Marek said: “We are devastated - the rest of the family wish they could be here with him. They are calling every five minutes but it’s very hard.

"They wait for good news, but there isn’t any.

'He is a fighter'

“He was looking forward to going back to take part in his Goddaughter’s Holy Communion and now he is fighting for his life. He is a fighter; I hope and pray he will be okay.

“When we found out we couldn’t believe something like this could happen to him. He is a nice bloke, he plays the guitar and likes hanging out with his friends.

“I hope someone will feel he is a human being and will contact police if they know something. You can phone anonymously, tell police who did this.”

The investigation team is appealing for two people, a man who walked past before the assault took place and a woman who came to Lucas’s aid after he was assaulted.

The woman who helped the victim after he was knocked to the floor, is described as white having curly hair, possibly blonde.

The man is described as white, around 180cm tall, slim build, 30-40 years of age, with short dark hair. He was clean shaven, wearing a light coloured T shirt and dark coloured body warmer. He walked passed the victim and his friends in the alleyway before the altercation.

DS Rob Grantham said: “This took place in a residential area and members of the public were around following the assault. I would urge anyone who saw the assault or the aftermath, to contact me as they may have vital information relating to this case.”

A 30-year-old, from the Ellesmere Port area, has been charged with section 20 wounding.

He was remanded into custody to appear before West Cheshire Magistrates Court on Thursday, May 7, where he was further remanded into custody to appear before Chester Crown Court on May 19.
