POLICE officers have clamped down on a racially abusive group on social networking website Facebook directed at staff members in a Chester corner shop.
The page, called ‘Clean up Saltney Londis!’, contained racially abusive posts on its wall, as well as a message saying: “Cmon lets get them out and get sum ppl who actually live in Saltney or Chester in there!”
The group, which has been shut down, had 39 members.
Saltney Londis shopkeeper Sinnaiah Sivaranjan, 36, known locally as Ranjan, condemned the Facebook group. He said: “I think the Facebook group is a disgraceful thing because these people were going on and misusing the website, breaking privacy and rubbishing the community.
“As far as I am concerned, I do not know of any incidents in the shop. There had been teenagers outside who were asking adults to buy cigarettes and alcohol for them, so maybe it could have come from there.”
North Wales Police launched a combined operation with Cheshire Constabulary to take action.
A 12-year-old girl was given a reprimand and two boys aged 13 and 14 were handed warnings. In addition, the Crown Prosecution Service is considering the prosecution of a 13-year-old boy.
Thirty-five other youngsters aged between 12 and 15 years old were registered as members of the group.
