An Ellesmere Port pub has been closed by police following a number of incidents involving drugs and violence.
Cheshire Constabulary applied to Chester Magistrates’ Court for a closure order for the Station Hotel in Station Road last Friday afternoon (August 14). The court ran out of time to consider the order on Friday and the hearing was adjourned until Tuesday (August 18).
Ellesmere Port and Neston Police subsequently tweeted: “The Station Hotel is currently closed under police powers due to drug use and violent incidents.”
A police spokesman explained it was Thursday that the owners of the Station Hotel were informed of the decision to seek a closure order.
If the three month order is granted, the premises will be boarded up and it will be illegal for anyone to enter for the three month duration of the order. It is understood that at the end of that period, the owners may have to reapply for their licence.
An earlier version of this story incorrectly stated the order had been granted last Friday. This information had been provided by the Cheshire Constabulary press office but has since been clarified by police who have now confirmed the hearing will resume on Tuesday.
