The M53 is now fully open following an earlier crash near Ellesmere Port on Thursday (September 24).

Three people were injured in the collision involving a BMW DRV and a Toyota Aygo at about 11.20am between junctions 9 and 10 for Cheshire Oaks.

A 33-year-old woman had to be cut free from her vehicle and she was flown to Aintree Hospital with suspected spinal and back injuries which 'aren't considered life threatening'.

North West Ambulance Service said two other people have been taken to the Countess of Chester Hospital with 'minor injuries'.

The M53 was closed in both directions to allow the North West Air Ambulance to land, but NW Motorway Police confirmed it had reopened just before 1pm.

Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "Firefighters stabilised the vehicle and removed the roof to enable them to release one female casualty from the vehicle.

"She was then handed over to the care of paramedics."
