A space creating extension to an Ellesmere Port GPs is just what the doctors ordered.
Costing £350,000 the makeover, which has doubled the size of the Westminster Surgery on Church Parade, is now complete.
The work was commissioned and managed by NHS Property Services.
It has extended and transformed the surgery by taking in space from two adjacent and vacant retail units.
Assistant project manager at NHS Property Services Tasmin Purssell said: “The surgery was desperate for extra space and we were delighted to support our tenants and help improve their estate by providing the extra space and facilities their patients and staff needed.
“Thanks to our partnership with Cheshire West and Chester Council and Peel Holdings we were able to extend into empty retail units they previously leased from NHS Property Services increasing the size of the building and helping to transform the space.”
She continued: “All work was carried out in isolated phases to ensure services were not disrupted enabling the surgery to remain operational throughout.

“This of course presented a number of challenges along the way but thanks to the surgery staff, patients and our partners we were able to complete the scheme and provide much needed space and an improved environment for the surgery and the local community.”
The redesign and refurbishment project at Church Parade has created more clinical rooms and provided a larger waiting area.
The single-storey project was designed by Chester-based architectural and planning consultancy Cassidy + Ashton.

Chartered building surveyor and director Dave Owen said: “It’s always tricky to undertake projects in a live environment, which is why we called upon the extensive experience of our planning, building surveying and architectural teams to devise a scheme that worked for the contractor, staff and patients.
“The new facility is really impressive and has provided much needed space for the growing surgery.”
Westminster Surgery has two GPs supported by nurses and administrative staff. It also provides a number of services managed by the Cheshire and Wirral Partnership NHS Foundation Trust.
