There is more chaos on the M56 in the aftermath of a tanker fire, as a main diversion route has been partially blocked by a lorry.
Drivers on the A56 Chester Road in Frodsham are currently facing delays via the alternate route due to the railway bridge being partially blocked by the vehicle between Howey Lane / Carriage Drive and Fountain Lane.
The blaze, which happened just after 3pm today has caused serious delays on the M56, as police were forced to close junctions 12-14 at Hapsford.
The driver of the tanker is said to have escaped with no injuries, police have said.
Despite onlookers describing the blaze as being like a 'giant bunsen burner', the driver managed to avoid being hurt after pulling onto the hard shoulder and exiting the burning propane Calor gas tanker.
The advised diversion for Chester-bound traffic is via the Hollow Black Circle Symbol. Runcorn-bound traffic is advised via the Solid Black Diamond Symbol.
Travel site Inrix reports that on this route there is a height restriction of 14foot 6inches and vehicles above this height will be held at a safe location.
