A fire on Deeside Industrial Estate has led to the closure of a road.

Fire crews are currently battling a blaze on the estate, with part of the A548 being closed by police while the fire is dealt with.

Crews were called at around 1pm to reports of a fire in the open.

Road closed and trains cancelled for hours after electric cables burst into flames

A busy road was closed and trains cancelled for more than six hours after electrical cables burst into flames.

Police officers shut part of the A548 on Deeside Industrial Estate after cables running along the road, which are understood to link UPM Shotton with a nearby solar park, caught fire.

I have spoken with the fire service who have told me they are still at the scene.

Although officially it has been stated the road is back open, the fire service have said they do not currently have any details that confirms this to be the case.

Scottish Power statement

Scottish Power said they were also sent to the scene of the incident to assist.

They were told there was a fire below a power line, but when they arrived at the scene they found the power line belonged to UPM Shotton and was not their equipment.

Crash - A494

There are potentially even more delays for motorists in the area as there has now been a crash on the A494.

The westbound carriageway is partially blocked between Queensferry and Buckley.

As we come toward 5pm when lots of motorists will be hitting the road around Deeside Industrial Estate, the road remains closed.

It is likely to be closed for a little while yet.

Fire service statement

The fire service have just provided a statement on the fire

They have said that the blaze involves a fire at the side of the A548 which involves an electric cable.

Two crews from Deeside are currently dealing with the blaze, which started just before 1pm.

Scottish Power engineers are also assisting.

Smoke is affecting visibility on the carriageway.

Conflicting accounts about what is on fire

There are a number of different accounts about what is on fire.

Some have said a car was seen on fire, with others saying it involves a “cable”. Fire service have not officially said what is on fire yet.

Traffic elsewhere

There is also very slow traffic on the B5129 Chester Road E in both directions between A548 / Kelsterton Road (Connahs Quay Turn Off) and A494 / A550 Gladstone Way (Queensferry / Sandycroft Turn Off).

The blaze is believed to be a fire in the open, but the fire service have not been able to provide too many details at the moment.

A spokesman for Arriva Trains Wales said:

Due to a fire on property near the railway between Neston and Hawarden Bridge all lines are blocked.”
