CHILDREN and staff at a Chester school are celebrating after being recognised for their commitment to working toward a sustainable lifestyle.
Victoria Infant School, Cheney Road, has picked up a Silver Eco Award thanks to the hard work of pupils led by the school’s ‘Green Team’.
The Green Team consists of one pupil from each class who monitored the efforts of the school throughout the year. They formulated the eco tasks, which included saving electricity by turning off computers and lights when not in use, saving water by turning off running taps, ensuring each class recycles their waste paper into the correct bins and helping birds and bees by giving them extra food and homes.
The children have also began growing their own vegetables and enjoyed fresh lettuce, carrots and potatoes in the summer term and grew the most enormous pumpkin.
They are now looking forward to continuing and improving on their eco success.
