A WOMAN was arrested in Chester city centre just days after appearing on national television as a guest on The Jeremy Kyle Show.
Cheryl Peggy Wheadon, 26, of Hoole Park, admitted using threatening and abusive words toward a female member of the public in Nicholas Street on March 8 when she appeared at Chester Magistrates Court on Friday.
The incident took place just three days after Wheadon had appeared on the hit ITV show in an episode entitled ‘Fail the lie detector and the wedding is off!’
Prosecuting Amanda Roberts told the court Wheadon was with two men – Gary Welsh, her partner, and Gethin William Kirwan – who had been fighting in the road when she swore at the frightened victim and shouted at her not to call the police.
Wheadon had also swung her bag at the two men to try to stop them from fighting.
Howard Jones, defending Wheadon, said his client ‘regrets her actions’.
He told the court Wheadon’s two children had recently been taken into care.
Kirwan, 34, of Roodee House in Grosvenor Street, pleaded guilty to using threatening behaviour with intent to cause fear of or provoke unlawful violence.
Becky Hay, defending, said Kirwan had purchased a mobile phone from Welsh that didn’t work.
When the pair saw each other in the city centre on March 8 they began discussing the issue but then the ‘incident escalated’ and punches were thrown, she told the court.
According to Ms Hay, the pair have since ‘resolved their issues’.
Wheadon was fined £35 for her role in the incident and ordered to pay £40 costs and a £15 victim surcharge.
Kirwan was handed a six-month community order with supervision and a drug rehabilitation requirement. He was also ordered to pay £85 costs.
Welsh was dealt with at an earlier hearing. He was sentenced to 22 weeks in prison, suspended for two years.
