CHESTER Racecourse enjoyed the sunshine and record crowds for the last race of the season, the Autumn Finale.
The attendance figure was 19,032 which saw a 7% increase on last year and a course record for the fixture. Crowd numbers for the whole season are up over 6%.
The seven race card was action packed with Peter Evans completing his Chester season with his eighth winner in the 5th race, the Innospec Handicap Stakes, with the 20-1 Desert Dreamer breaking the track records.
The feature race of the day, the sportingbet,.com Stakes, which was broadcast live on Channel 4 was won by Mutamaashi.
The celebrities were out in force with 20 of the main cast members of local soap Hollyoaks enjoying hospitality in the Paddock.
Richard Thomas, chief executive for Chester Race Company Ltd, said: ‘This has been the perfect end to a fantastic season for us – we have seen our annual crowds increase by over 6% which in the current climate is amazing and testament the experience we provide all of our customers here and the hard work of all of the team.
“Chester Racecourse has always been about people having fun and enjoying themselves and today we had almost twenty thousand smiling faces here at the Roodee.”
Tickets go on sale for the 2010 season on Monday – prices will be held at 2009 levels until December 1.
