TWO NHS workers will put the pedal to the metal as they cycle hundreds of kilometres through Cuba to raise money for the Alzheimer’s Society.
Kat Humphries, 25, and Rachel Flood, 27, both from Chester, are appealing for readers to help them raise more than £6,000 when they take part in the Cycle Cuba challenge next January.
Kat and Rachel are both NHS procurement staff members.
They will cycle more than 300 kms through exotic Caribbean coastline and mountainous national parks.
Jo Swinhoe, of the Alzheimer’s Society, said: “We are delighted that Kat and Rachel are giving their time and energy to cycle through Cuba to raise money for the Alzheimer’s Society.
“Exercise, like cycling, is also a great way to help reduce your risk of dementia.
“One in three people over the age of 65 will die with dementia.
“It is more than just memory loss; it robs people of their lives and has a devastating impact on families and loved ones.”
Kat and Rachel are organising various fundraising events, including speed dating, band nights and bag packing at supermarkets.
Their next fundraising event will be a Ladies’ Night, hosted by Dixi Tucker, featuring the UK Stallions, at Chester’s Diva Show Bar, Station Road, tomorrow, from 8.30pm, with tickets priced £10 available in advance.
