HOT on the heels of the royal wedding, Chester Music Theatre presented its Not the Royal Wedding themed open mic night.
Newcomers were encouraged to get up and perform including Jeff Dutton from Kelsall who gave an impromptu performance of Elvis Presley’s Teddy Bear.
The holiday atmosphere prompted many to get on stage with a resulting eclectic selection of songs, from slow-tempo classics to up-beat current songs.
The wide variety of songs being showcased was representative of the teenagers and adults performing.
Catherine Harrison, CMT’s artistic director, started the open mic nights with a view to giving music students the opportunity to develop their skills.
‘At CMT we think that music needs to go beyond the confines of lessons, or practising at home, and become a social thing,” said Catherine.
The next CMT open mic will take place on Saturday, June 11 from 8-11.30pm at the theatre on Tarvin Road.
