A CONSTRUCTION site worker scoured the internet for pornographic images of young girls before turning a “perverted fantasy into a reality” and exposing himself to two children.
Stephen Edward Birch, 44, of Grange Road, Chester, waited until his wife left for work before searching child pornography on the internet and saving indecent images of young girls, which he described as “appealing”, to a file named XXX.
Later, the keen cyclist rode his push bike to Lime Wood Park, Kingsway, where he saw a nine and a 10-year-old girl playing together on a scooter.
Birch, wearing a dark beanie hat and a high visibility jacket which had two indecent images of children hidden in a pocket, circled the girls before stopping about a foot away from them.
He dismounted and said “excuse me girls”, paused, and exposed himself saying “have you ever seen one of these?”
The girls, both shocked and scared, ran screaming towards the car park where their fathers were sitting in a car listening to music.
Nicholas Williams, prosecuting, said: “He started to surf the internet looking for child pornography. He does that because he has a sexual interest in children. He then went out looking for some young girls that might just be unsupervised.
“Sometime about 5pm he hits the jackpot. Two young girls about the same age, seemingly unsupervised by an adult. He turned a perverted fantasy into a reality.”
He was found guilty at Chester Crown Court of breaching a sexual prevention order which had been imposed for an earlier offence of indecent exposure.
Birch, who pleaded not guilty, said: “It wasn’t me. I know I didn’t go out that Sunday. I know I was playing poker and I know there was football on the television. I know it wasn’t me.”
Birch will be sentenced for the breach and possessing indecent photographs of children at Chester Crown Court on Thursday, July 31.
